Director

Mickey Schindler, Esq., PhD., is the director of MARVA. He is an attorney with training in social work who specializes in Elder Law and Disabilities Law. Previously, Dr. Schindler was the long-time director of Yad Riva, a national nonprofit organization providing legal aid for the elderly. Prior to his work at Yad Riva, Dr. Schindler was an attorney at Bizchut – The Israel Human Rights Center for People with Disabilities.

Dr. Schindler received the Zusman JDC Israel Prize (2008) for “excellence in the innovation, originality, initiative, and implementation of social service programs benefiting the elderly in Israel”; and the Michael Halperin Best Essay Prize: Law in Action-Reflections on Human Rights Practice (2017) from the Haim Striks School of Law at the College of Management Academic Studies (Hamichlala Leminhal).

Dr. Schindler received his doctorate from Bar-Ilan University’s Faculty of Law in 2012. His doctoral thesis focused on the legal defense of at-risk elderly people. Dr. Schindler teaches interdisciplinary courses in law and social work at the Department of Social Work at Bar-Ilan University and at the Ashkelon Academic College. He has published articles in numerous journals and books, and he lectures extensively at academic and professional conferences in Israel and abroad.
